Attitude

SUCCESS doesn't mean the absence of failures but means

• attainment of ultimate objectives
• winning the war not every battle

The dealings are for those who determine to succeed and put every effort to achieve success. If such attitude is not visible on the surface, my points dealt here describe the tools for success which helps you to build a successful and rewarding life.

Most people fail not because of lack of ability or intelligence but because of lack of desire, dedication, direction and discipline.

All balloons do not go up in the air. Some go up as they are filled with gas. Others do not, why? Since it is filled with ordinary air or has nothing inside. The same principle applies to us. It is what is inside us that counts. That is attitude. People can be your biggest asset or your biggest liability. The success of an individual, organization or country depends on the quality of their people. If people had their better attitudes, they would be better team players and it would cut down waste, improve loyalty and in general make their company a great place to work. Human beings can change their attitudes of mind. Changing the attitudes of people is not a magic.

Variety of programs can work on the people exposed to them, unless they have the right foundation. People with character, integrity good values and positive attitude, can be identified as quality people. To elaborate a bit, anybody can be taught to use "please". "Thank you" " "pardon me" etc and " smiling face". Such smile will not be sincere. If it is not sincere, it will irritate. Just like a great building stands on a strong foundation, so does success. That is attitude.

A study reveals that for a man's success for example getting a job the contribution goes to attitude which accounts for 85% whereas facts & figures accounts for the balance 15%. In our practical life, what we do? We are spending / teaching for that 15% only. Nobody can be a good teacher or a student/ parent or a child/ employer or an employee, without a good attitude.

The foundation of success regardless of your chosen field is attitude. Such attitude do have an effect on your goals.

It will be of more understanding through an event. There was a farmer leading a contented life. He was happy since he was content. One day a wise man came and described about diamonds and the worthiness of the same to the farmer. This farmer decided to sell off his farm and went in search of diamonds. The exercise was futile, since he was only searching for the valuable diamonds. The other who purchased the land from the farmer came across a stone in that land and placed it in his show-case / living room. His friend who was a wise man saw the stone ( diamond) displayed in the house and narrated the worth of that stone - DIAMOND. Immediately that man started searching for such stones in his land from where he picked up the earlier stone. He found a number of such stones and he had derived the satisfaction of walking on the diamonds and not on field. The moral of this event is:

• When the attitude is right, we realize the opportunities which are under our feet.
• The grass on the other side looks greener than what it is
• Such illusion make us not to recognize the real grass under our feet
• The people who don't know such recognition complaints of noise when opportunity knocks the doors
• The next opportunity may or may not arise, even if it happens, it will be different.

Attitude can also be explained, if gone into the realities in David & Goliath story. David killed the giant with a sling. How and why? The attitude - a positive thinker.

Environment

Three factors namely environment, experience & education determine our attitude. In a positive environment, a marginal performer's output goes up. In a negative environment a god performer's output goes down. In a corrupt environment, an honest person has a tough time whereas in an honest environment, the corrupt one has a tough time. Likewise positive experience with a person changes our attitude with him and vice versa. The person with a positive personality is caring, confident, patient and humble. He is a fruit of all seasons. Benefits of Positive attitude are:

• Increases productivity
• Solves problems
• Fosters teamwork
• Improves quality
• Makes congenial atmosphere
• Breeds loyalty
• Increases profits
• Fosters better relationships with employer, employee & customers
• Helps a person to become a contributing member
• Makes for a pleasing personality

Dealing with people is digging gold. To get an ounce of gold, we may have to move tons of dirt. At the time of digging the dirt is not looked into, the aim is gold, gold and gold only. Even a stopped clock is right twice a day. We need to become good finders. That is. finders of good things. Looking for positive things need not mean overlooking faults. Negative people always criticize. An incident can explain a you a lot. A hunter bought a bird dog which could walk on the water also. To show such unique happening, the hunter took his friend for hunting. The amazing dog brought the birds which were shot from wherever had fallen ( water, forest, land etc). Expecting some pat, the hunter asked for any uniqueness. For that the friend replied " yes, the dog can't swim" Some people always look at negative side.

To build a positive attitude, learn and practice the following phrase " DO IT NOW". A completed work is fulfilling and energizing whereas the incomplete work drains energy like a leak from a tank. Let us make the best of now and utilize the present to the fullest. Never leave till tomorrow which you can do today.

We should try to develop an attitude of gratitude. Count your blessings and not your troubles. The message is not to become complacent with the blessings.

Education

Education ought to teach us not only how to make a living but also how to live. Education doesn't mean what we get from colleges etc on information and statistics. Education that builds fundamental traits of character such as honesty, compassion, courage, persistence and responsibility is absolutely essential. A morally educated person will be lot better equipped to move up in life or succeed than a morally bankrupt person with excellent academic qualifications. Character building and teaching values and ethics come in the formative years because the child is not born with this knowledge. True education is training of both the head and the heart. We need to compete for knowledge and wisdom, not for grades. Knowledge is piling up facts and wisdom is simplifying it. Education doesn't mean good judgment. Advisors need to be chosen carefully and use your judgment. The tragedy is that there are walking encyclopedias who are living failures. A person can and will be successful with or without formal education if they have character, commitment, conviction, courtesy & courage. Ability without the right attitude is a waste.

Educated persons are those who can choose wisely and courageously under any circumstances. If they have the ability to chose between wisdom and foolishness between good and bad between virtuousness and vulgarities regardless of the academic degrees they have then are educated. Education and knowledge without common sense has little meaning. Common sense is the ability to see things as they are and do them as they ought to be done. An abundance of common sense is called wisdom.

Learning is like eating food. It is not how much you eat, it is how much you digest.Knowledge is potential power, wisdom is the real power. Education is:

• Cultivating your strength
• Learning self discipline
• Listening
• Desiring to learn.

Continuance positive education leads to positive thinking. Positive thinkers are going through life without blinders, they are the winners who recognize their limitations but focus on their strengths.

Self-esteem

Self -Esteem is that what we feel about ourselves. When we feel good about ourselves, our performance goes up, our relationship goes up, both at home and at work. This is because of the direct relation with feelings and behavior. We should try to stay away from negative influences. Things / work need to be done whether we like them or not. Start by doing what is necessary, then what is possible and suddenly you will be doing the impossible. Every morning, as first step read or listen to something positive, this will set the tone for the day. Practice for having positive thoughts and behavior daily until they become a habit.

Winner

Winners:

• Always part of the answer
• Always has a program
• Communicate " let me do it for you"
• sees an answer for every problem
• tell " it may be difficult but it is possible"
• will admit mistakes
• make commitments
• have dreams
• uses " I must do something"
• always part of the team
• see the gain where as the loser sees the pain
• see the possibilities, potential,
• are like thermostats and not thermometer
• use hard arguments but uses soft words
• stand firm on values but compromise with petty things
• make it happen
• plan and prepare to win

Conclusion:

In a nutshell the actions expected of you are: 1. be a good finder
2. make a habit of doing it now
3. develop an attitude of gratitude
4. get into continuous education program
5. build a self-esteem
6. stay away from negative influences
7. learn to like things that need to be done
8. Start the day with a positive.
9. Be a winner and will be a winner.
